Welcome to Toronto-Danforth

Map of Toronto-Danforth

The riding of Toronto–Danforth is a culturally and economically vibrant community. Its neighbourhoods include Greektown, East York, Leslieville, Little India, Chinatown East, Port Lands, Riverdale and more.

Toronto-Danforth has been represented federally in the House of Commons since 1979 (initially as the old Broadview-Grenwood riding until 2000). Notably, it was the riding former NDP and opposition leader Jack Layton represented from 2004 until his tragic death in 2011.

Provincially, Toronto-Danforth has been represented at Queen's Park since 1999, when it was created from the old Riverdale, York East and Beaches-Woodbine ridings to reflect federal boundaries.

MPP Peter Tabuns

Today, the riding is represented provincially by NDP MPP Peter Tabuns.

Peter became the NDP MPP for Toronto-Danforth in a 2006 by-election. He was re-elected in 2007, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and in the most recent February 2025 campaign where he scored a decisive victory.

Following the 2022 election, Peter served as the ONDP's interim leader until Marit Stiles became our new permanent leader.

Peter brings fresh, bold ideas to Queen’s Park on tackling the climate crisis, renewable energy and job creation.

Clare Hacksel

Clare Hacksel was our candidate in 2025 federal election. Her nomination was approved by Toronto-Danforth NDP members at our July 2023 nomination meeting. Clare was also our federal candidate in 2021.

Municipal

Municipally, Toronto-Danforth is served by Ward 14 City Councillor Paula Fletcher. Sara Ehrhardt is the TDSB School Trustee for Ward 15 Toronto-Danforth.
