Only an NDP government will make the ultra-rich pay what they owe.
Canada's NDP issued the following press release on January 16, 2025.
“Hard-working Canadians deserve someone on their side. Fighting to help them, not the ultra-rich and powerful. They’re sick and tired of millionaires and billionaires racking up profits off their backs without paying their fair share.
Last night, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre held a fundraiser for millionaires in an I-scratch-your back-you-scratch-mine event, and today he announced that he will give a tax break to his ultra-rich buddies by lowering the capital gains tax — another tax break only for the ultra-rich. Pierre Poilievre is not on your side — if you are not a CEO, not a millionaire or billionaire, Pierre Poilievre doesn’t work for you. He will cut your pension, cut your health care, and cut your childcare to put more money in the pockets of the ultra-rich.
At a time of rampant inequality, including severe generational inequity, we need more tax fairness, not less.
Only Jagmeet Singh’s NDP government will make sure the ultra-rich pay their fair share and Canadians get the fairness they deserve.”

The NDP has launched its review and renewal process to reflect on the 2025 election campaign and help shape a path forward for the party.
With the appointment of Don Davies as Interim Leader of Canada’s NDP, the party begins reconnecting with working people, renewing its commitment to Canadians and rebuilding for the future.
