TORONTO-DANFORTH - Jack Layton is being remembered as an inspiration and tireless advocate for Toronto-Danforth on the ten-year anniversary of his death.
MPP Peter Tabuns and our federal candidate Clare Hacksel shared the following remarks about the former NDP leader who served Toronto-Danforth as our MP and city councillor.
"Today is the anniversary of the death of Jack Layton. Leader, friend, social justice advocate. He made a huge difference in our lives and is fondly remembered. People still talk about him in the #TorDan community as their local guy. He is missed."
"Ten years ago today, we lost Jack Layton. His vision of a more caring and compassionate Canada has never been so important.
For Toronto-Danforth, the 10 year anniversary of Jack's death is particularly special. He loved our riding and brought our community's progressive voice first to city hall as a councillor and then to Ottawa as our MP. Jack dedicated his life to improving the lives of working folks, here in Toronto-Danforth and across the country.
Let's continue to be loving, hopeful and optimistic and remember his parting words. Thank you Jack."
We miss you Jack, but your legacy of love, stength and compassion lives on here in Toronto-Danforth and across the country.
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world." - Jack Layton in his final letter to Canadians.
